Varsity Volleyball Celebrates the Little Victories

The varsity volleyball team will have to wait another weekend for a shot at its first win of the season.

On Thursday, September 28, the team lost to Lutheran North after four sets. However, after losing the first set by 2 points (25-23), the team bounced back and won the second set by the same margin.

In response to having won its first set of the season, every team member “was really excited and we were jumping and hugging each other,” said sophomore Ava Barcelo ‘20.

Mia Burkhalter ‘18 voiced a similar sentiment: “It felt really good because we finally played the way that we knew we could, and before, we had not been playing to the best of our abilities.”

However, the team lost the third and fourth sets (25-21 and 25-12, respectively), and so lost the match overall.

Despite the result, the team saw excellent individual performances from several players, most notably by senior Katie Coates ‘18, who played the entire game with a sprained ankle.
